Algeria's annual inflation falls to 5.2pc in January

The country has been trying to boost domestic food output while restricting imports in a bid to cut spending after a fall in energy earnings, the main source of the state finances.

On a monthly basis, the consumer price index declined 0.9 percent in January, according to the National Statistics Bureau.

The cost of vegetables fell 8 percent, while prices for cheeses and dried fruits rose 1.4 percent and 2 percent respectively.
