ISLAMABAD: Minister for Privatization Daniyal Aziz on Friday submitted a written reply before the Supreme Court in the contempt of court case.

A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed heard the case.

During the course of proceedings, Advocate Ali Raza counsel for Daniyal Aziz appeared before the bench and submitted a reply in response to a show-cause notice seeking explanation as to why contempt of court proceedings should not be initiated against Daniyal Aziz for making contemptuous and derogatory remarks against the judiciary.

Ali Raza made a requisition for the recording of his client’s speech making derogatory remarks against the judiciary.

Justice Azmat Saeed asked Daniyal Aziz that the courtroom had arranged a screen to watch videos of the speech where he allegedly spoke against the judiciary.

So which film are you showing us today, Justice Saeed asked, to which Daniyal Aziz responded that he had submitted a written response in the court.

Ali Raza asked the court to provide his client with the video of the speech over which he had been accused of contempt. The bench ordering the additional attorney general to provide Daniyal Aziz with the video along with a news report published in the Dunya newspaper.

When Daniyal Aziz insisted that he had been misquoted by daily Dunya newspaper, the bench said that the court had provided him with the transcript and the video of the speech aired on different news channels for which he had been accused of contempt.      The bench then told Aziz to submit the video of the speech in which he was allegedly misquoted, warning him that the court would not provide him more time.

Aziz said that he had requested the Press Information Department to provide him with the clips and transcript.

Later, hearing of the case was adjourned until March 6.
