The Punjab Skills Development Fund (PSDF) and Careem have partnered to launch its “Entrepreneurship on Wheels” programme to offer dedicated training to Careem's rickshaw and delivery captains. This programme hopes to train 650 individuals in 6 districts of Punjab by June 2021.

This programme will continue for the duration of November 2020 to July 2021. The training will be conducted by the National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP).

Careem hopes to offer training to 800 rickshaw captains on sign navigation usage, road ethics, driving and mechanical skills. Trainees who successfully graduate from this two month training programme will receive their driving licenses.

PSDF will bear the cost of this training, examination, and driving license. On the other hand, Careem will be responsible for boarding these graduates on the Careem Super App, offering them a means of earning.

Careem's CEO and Country General Manager, Zeeshan Hasib Baig also explains that the company has registered more than 500,000 captains in multiple verticals. This partnership with the PSDF will allow Careem to continue provide more employment opportunities than before.

CEO PSDF, Jawad Khan also adds that this “The partnership with Careem is an example of how PSDF is innovating during this crisis and providing market-relevant skills to youth in high-growth sectors."

As the pandemic has led to numerous layoffs in the ride-hailing industry, this initiative will provide an opportunity for young unemployed and underprivileged individuals to earn a sustainable income.
