Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Qamar Zaman Kaira has tested positive for coronavirus.

The PPP leader had been campaigning with Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in Gilgit Baltistan for over two weeks. In a tweet, Sindh Information Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah prayed for his health and said that Kaira is a great 'asset of the party'.

Kaira becomes the latest politician to have contracted the novel virus. Last week, Federal Maritime Affairs Minister Ali Haider Zaidi and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf MNA Aamir Liaquat Hussain also tested positive for COVID-19.

In the last 24 hours, the country reported 1,650 new cases and nine more deaths.
