MOSCOW: Authorities in Georgia said on Saturday the South Caucasus country would impose a curfew between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. in its largest cities to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Announced by Deputy Prime Minister Maia Tskitishvili, the measure will come into force on Monday and restrict the movements of pedestrians and vehicles, local media reported.

The country of 3.7 million people has already made it mandatory to wear masks both indoors and outdoors.

The authorities said this week that all restaurants and cafes across the ex-Soviet country must close at 10 p.m., and online study at schools and universities in 10 large cities, including the capital Tbilisi, will continue until Nov. 25.

Since the start of the pandemic, Georgia has reported 54,852 COVID-19 cases.
