PKM urges Buzdar to take action against sugarcane 'mafia'

LAHORE: Pakistan Kissan Movement (PKM) Secretary General Hanif Gujjar has urged Punjab Chief Minister to take action against the sugarcane mafia who are fleecing the sugarcane growers of district Rahim Yar Khan by purchasing sugarcane @ Rs 180 per 40-kg. instead of Rs 200 fixed by the provincial government.

Talking to media, he said the middlemen from Sindh are purchasing sugarcane in Rahim Yar Khan in violation of the decision of the Punjab government. He added that cash payment receipt (CPR) is not being issued to the growers by these middlemen. He said that the farmers are very upset because they are not getting due price of their crop. These middlemen are purchasing cane in huge quantities and taking to the sugar mills in Sindh.

Hanif Gujjar said, if the government can ban the transportation of sugar to Sindh why ban cannot be imposed on transportation of sugarcane to Sindh.
