US stocks open higher in Election Day session, Dow +1.2pc

NEW YORK: Wall Street stocks rose early Tuesday, extending gains from the prior session, as voters headed to the polls in the culmination of a long and bitter US presidential campaign.

Shortly after the opening bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average stood at 27,251.58, up 1.2 percent.

The broad-based S&P 500 gained 1.0 percent to 3,342.33, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index climbed 0.7 percent to 11,035.54.
