(Karachi) A Gujranwala sessions court has extended interim bail of Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar Awan, the son-in-law of PML-N founder Nawaz Sharif, until November 10 in a sedition case, media reported on Wednesday.

As per details, Safdar and PML-N MPA Imran Khalid Butt appeared before the court. The court had approved their bail plea subject to submission of surety bonds worth Rs50,000 each last week.

A first information report (FIR) was registered against Safdar and Butt at Satellite Town police station.

The FIR stated that Safdar Awan had threatened to topple the government through protests and allegedly provoked people against the state and its institutions.

Earlier, Sindh Police nabbed Capt (R) Safdar from a hotel in Karachi. The arrest was reported to be in a case registered against him for chanting political slogans in the vicinity of the Mazar-e-Quaid.

The police registered a case against PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz, Capt (R) Safdar, and 200 others at the Brigade Police Station in Karachi for alleged desecration of Mazar-e-Quaid.
