(Karachi) The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), an alliance of major opposition parties, has decided that it will hold its public rally on GT Road in Gujranwala on October 16 at all costs.

Addressing a press conference in Gujranwala on Wednesday after the PDM meeting, former premier Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that the government did not gave permission to hold rally in Jinnah Stadium, therefore the PDM will now hold rally on GT Road.

He said the PDM will hold a historic public gathering. "Neither the police nor the containers could stop them from holding rallies," he remarked.

He maintained that the government has failed to provide relief to the people. He said that inflation and joblessness has made lives of people miserable while there has been a drastic increase in poverty in the country.

Speaking on the occasion, PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal accused the government of arresting their leaders. He said that police are conducting raids at houses of PDM leaders in a bid to pressurize them from holding rallies against the government.

He added that people in large numbers will participate in the rally despite all odds.

Earlier, the PDM announced to hold a public rally in Karachi on October 18 as part of the campaign against the government. The rally was due to take place in Quetta but it coincided with PPP's Karsaz carnage.

The PDM will also hold public gatherings and rallies in Quetta on October 25 and in Peshawar and Multan on November 22 and 30, respectively.
