Governor Punjab Chaudhary Muhammad Sarwar on Tuesday denied involvement in the registration of the treason case against former primer minister and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif.

On Monday, the PML-N chief and other party leaders were booked on treason charges at the Shahdara police station on the complaint of a citizen, Badar Rasheed, son of Rasheed Khan, a resident of Mohallah Khurshid Park, Shahdara, under sections 120, 120B, 121, 121A, 123A, 124, 124A, 153, 153A and 505 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and Section 10 of Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016.

Talking to the media over allegation of his involvement in the case registration against Nawaz Sharif, the governor said he has never called anyone a traitor in his life and added that he has no connection with Badar Rasheed, the complainant in the case against Nawaz Sharif.

He said people like Badar Bashir are fond of frequently changing political parties. He was also spotted with PML-N leaders.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that case applicant Babar Rasheed is nominated in criminal cases including an attempt to murder, weapon possession, and interference in state matters.

Rasheed is booked at Old Anarkali Police Station, Police Station Shahdara, and PS Sharaqpur.

Furthermore, the Lahore police also cleared that the case filed against PMLN supremo has nothing to do with the state.

As per the police, the treason case against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and other Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) leaders has not been filed by the state.

Denying the rumors that the case was registered at the behest of the state or any of its institutions, the police said action will be taken only against those found guilty of the charges.
