LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday granted protective bail to Capt (r) Muhammad Safdar, son-in-law of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, till October 10 enabling him to approach for bail to a court of original jurisdiction in a high treason case registered against him.

Earlier, the court heard the petition as objection case and asked his counsel whether he had placed certified copy of the FIR on record. The counsel said the case was registered against his client to victimize him politically and stop him from joining a PML-N public meeting in Gujranwala.

He stated that he had asked the police for certified copy of the FIR but the officials concerned refused to provide him the same, so he attached unattested copy of FIR. The court accordingly removed the objection raised by the registrar office and granted him protected bail.
