Minister says economy digitization vital factor for growth
LAHORE: Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar has said that digitization of the economy is one of the most important factors for Pakistan’s growth.
“Digitalization will play a significant role in turning the direction of Pakistan’s economy,” he added.
He expressed these views while addressing the Digital Seller Summit held online on Wednesday. Daraz, a leading online marketplace in the country, hosted the summit for a community of 70,000 sellers, which is an annual event where Daraz welcomes existing and potential sellers from across the nation to celebrate the success of the community.
He further said that the more digital commerce grows, the easier it will become for the small entrepreneurs and business owners to compete.
In his address, Federal Science and Technology Minister Fawad Chaudhry said that in the past 10 years, technology has changed entrepreneurship, knowledge and provided access.
“Technology and entrepreneurship is a match made in heaven and the opportunities today present are vast and will continue to increase in the future,” he added.
On the occasion, Daraz Pakistan Managing Director Ehsan Saya spoke about the Covid-19 pandemic and Daraz’ resolve to facilitate small and medium enterprises and safeguard their businesses from economic downfall.
“Over the past year, Pakistan has faced numerous challenges that only strengthened our commitment to empower our sellers and to contribute to Pakistan’s e-commerce ecosystem. During these uncertain times, as businesses have adopted digital modes of operation, our community of sellers has grown and we offer them our unconditional support to reach new heights,” he said.
