'Recalling Delhi violence'

Updated 20 Sep, 2020

This is apropos a Business Recorder editorial "Recalling Delhi violence" carried by the newspaper on Sunday. The newspaper has presented a highly objective comment on how India under BJP and other members of Sangh Parivar are working towards ensuring the success of Hindutva movement. In this regard, the newspaper has argued, among other things, that "Surely, the ruling BJP is not going to prosecute its own. Chief Minister of India's most populous state, UP - home to a large Muslim community - Yogi Adiyanath, specializes in delivering hate speeches against Muslims. In the present instance, he threatened to take "revenge" from those he accused - Muslims, of course - of destroying public property, adding that their property will be confiscated to make up for the losses of public assets. It was no empty threat. Soon afterwards on his order the police identified "wanted" people, all Muslims, and displayed posters of these wanted men everywhere. Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself has built his political career on hate speeches and actions targeting Muslims." I wish to make one point in this regard: Subramanian Swamy of RSS has already made it clear to the entire world that India would be turned into a Hindu Rashtra only through constitutional stipulations. In other words, the Parivar hopes to consolidate its power by obtaining the required majority in both houses of parliament by the next general elections to enact laws that it seeks to introduce in order to turn a fully Hindutva mainstreamed quasi-secular India into a state without encountering any meaningful opposition inside and outside parliament.
