KARACHI: Schools and universities in the province restarted its educational activities on Tuesday after a six-month long closure due to the outbreak of novel coronavirus. Sindh Minister for Education and Literacy Saeed Ghani visited different schools in the city to inspect the educational activities and implementation of SOPs.

University of Karachi also opened and resumed its educational activities. However, hundreds of students protested outside the vice chancellor office demanding cancellation of physical exams in the university. "We have been taught online and examined through KU's online learning system. There is no justification for taking physical exams. We should be promoted to next semester," the students demanded.

On the other hand, the management of Ziauddin University ensured proper implementation of health guidelines such as wearing masks and gloves, social distancing and use of sanitizer to keep the coronavirus at bay. Students have also been divided in groups to ensure social distancing and follow SOPs.

Prof Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, Vice Chancellor of Ziauddin University while appreciating the step taken by the government to reopen the educational institutes said, "It was necessary to take this decision so that we could move the education system forward.

We are following all the SOPs set by the authorities but it is also the responsibility of parents and students to ensure the compliance with SOPs to avoid spread of coronavirus. My all well wishes are with the students and hope students will follow all SOPs and safety requirements. May Allah protect our children from this deadly virus"
