PM expected to announce 50 projects under Karachi Transformation Plan

(Karachi) Prime Minister Imran Khan is expected to announce Karachi Transformation Plan worth billions during his visit to the metropolis on Saturday, media reported.

According to details, Imran Khan will announce at least 50 projects for the rain-hit city. The schemes would include six mass-transit projects worth Rs447.45 billion and Rs300 billion Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project.

Under the KCR project, the Chinese government would provide Rs250 billion while the Sindh government would include its share of Rs50 billion.

Besides, sewerage and solid waste management projects have also been included in the Karachi Transformation Plan.

For improving the sewerage system in the city, the prime minister will announce eight projects costing around Rs162.60 billion and four solid waste management schemes with an estimate of Rs14.86 billion.

For road infrastructure, the PM is expected to announce projects worth Rs62.30 billion while Rs 4.60 billion would be earmarked for two water drain projects.

Earlier, the PM directed the officials to finalise the Karachi Transformation Plan in consultation with all the stakeholders.

He said the federal government is cognisant of the sufferings of the people of Karachi due to civic issues and will play its role in mitigating them. Imran said the country’s progress and development is linked to the prosperity of the metropolis.
