Torture unacceptable: PM asks interior ministry to expedite tabling anti-torture bill in NA

Prime Minister Imran Khan announced on Thursday that he has asked the Interior Ministry to expedite tabling of anti-torture bill in the National Assembly.

In a tweet today, the PM said that torture is unacceptable in a civilized democratic society. He further said torture goes against the spirit of Islam, 'our constitution and our international legal commitments'.

Earlier the PM had directed the early release of female prisoners both under-trial and convicted in light of the Supreme Court’s orders. During the meeting with Federal Minister for Humar Rights Sr Shireen Mazari, the premier also asked for immediate reports on foreign women prisoners and women on death row for humanitarian consideration.
