ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People's Party (PPP) has rejected increase in electricity price and urged the federal government to withdraw its decision.

Parliamentary leader of the PPP in the Senate Sherry Rehman said the federal government was putting a burden of Rs10 to Rs12 billion on the people by increasing electricity price.

"People are not ready to give extra money to the government for electricity bills. The government is collecting money from the people by generating expensive electricity," she said.

She said that on the one hand the government has increased fines in the electricity bills for making electricity more expensive, while on the other hand it is increasing electricity rates.

Why is electricity being generated from furnace oil in the presence of water? Sherry questioned.
