Youm-e-Ashura being observed amid tight security
Youm-e-Azhura, the tenth of Muharram, is being observed today (Sunday) with solemnity and sanctity in different parts of the country to commemorate the sacrifices made by Imam Hussain (RA) and his 72 companions at Karbala.
Thousands of mourners are participating in the processions in all cities and small towns of the country.
In Karachi, the main processions was taken out from Nishtar Park, while big and small processions will be held in various other parts of the city.
The main procession began at Nisar Haveli in Lahore and, after passing its traditional routes, will culminate in Karbala Gamay Shah in the evening.
In Peshawar, the first procession of Ashura day will emerge from Imambargah Agha Syed Ali Shah Rizvi from Mohallah Chirikoban near Muslim Meena Bazaar.
Majalis will be held across the country where ulema will highlighting the philosophy of Karbala and pay tributes to the martyrs.
Strict security arrangements have been put in place to tackle any unwanted incident, while Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) have been issued for the mourning processions after consultations with the religious scholars to stem the spread of coronavirus.
The day started with special prayers at mosques and imambargahs while all markets and business centres will remain closed on the occasion of Ashura.
