ISLAMABAD: A technical assistance mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has started online consultations with the tax authorities of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) from August 17-28. Sources told Business Recorder that the tax experts of the IMF have started detailed one-to-one round of discussions from August 17 to August 28 with the FBR Board Members to better understand the existing mechanisms/procedures and help FBR in identification of more concrete measures directed towards mobilizing the revenues. During this two weeks online technical assistance programme, Kors Kool and Bruce Quigley (IMF tax experts) would engage with Board members and provide active feedback.

The IMF team has framed questions which would be discussed with the concerned members in detail during the online sessions. Broad agenda of questions of the IMF covers reform plan and reform management; registration and filing; compliance risk management; tax collection and arrears; refunds; simplification of sales tax and harmonization of taxes.
