Outgoing US ambassador meets COAS, appreciates Pakistan's role in Afghan peace process

(Karachi) Outgoing United States (US) Ambassador to Pakistan Paul W. Jones met Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa, on his farewell visit on Wednesday, a statement issued by Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

According to the ISPR, Bajwa thanked the US Charge d’Affairs for his services and contributions in Pakistan.

Ambassador Paul W. Jones also appreciated Pakistan’s positive role for Afghan peace and reconciliation process and ensuring peace and stability in the region.

Pakistan played an important role in facilitating the peace process between the Taliban and US. Both the US administration and Afghan government demanded Pakistan to influence and bring the Taliban to the table talks.

The result of Pakistan's efforts proved fruitful when the Afghan government agreed to release 4,000 Taliban prisoners from jails. An agreement has been reached between the Taliban and Afghan administration to maintain ceasefire and call off attacks to bring stability and peace in the region.
