Independence Day today

LAHORE: The Pakistani nation is celebrating Independence Day on Friday (today) with a resolve to make the country in accordance with the vision of founding father.

The day will dawn with 31-gun salute in the Federal Capital and 21-gun salute in the provincial headquarters. Prayers will be offered for the country's security and progress and well-being of the people. It will be a public holiday; national flag will be hoisted at all important public and private buildings.

The main feature of the celebrations will be a national flag hoisting ceremony at President House Islamabad.

President Dr Arif Alvi will be the chief guest on the occasion. Flag hoisting ceremonies will also be held at provincial, divisional and district headquarters level throughout the country.

Public and private buildings as well as streets, bazaars and markets have been profusely illuminated. National flags, buntings, portraits of founding fathers, posters and banners are seen everywhere as part of the celebration of Independence Day.

TV and radio channels will present programmes to celebrate the day. The change of guards ceremonies will be held at Mazar-e-Quaid Karachi and Allama Iqbal Tomb, Lahore.

Following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) announced by the government to stop spread of coronavirus, different organizations will hold various digital activities with focus on acknowledging the contribution of leaders of Pakistan movement and sacrifices of national heroes.

A number of stalls carrying bunting, flags, badges, Azadi dresses and other accessories were set up. The youth and children are showing interest and purchasing flags, buntings etc.
