KARACHI: A leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Shehzad Qureshi, who is also a member of the Sindh Assembly, has demanded of the provincial government to immediately ensure removal of illegal billboards from the city.

He said that the illegal billboards falling on buildings during the rains endangered the lives of the people of Karachi.

An incident took place recently near the Metropole Roundabout in which two motorcycle riders were seriously injured when a billboard fell on them from a building, he said.

The PTI MPA said that the entire responsibility of providing treatment to the injured people rested on the advertising company.

Shehzad Qureshi further said that there were clear orders of the Supreme Court that no giant billboards were to be erected anywhere in the city, but despite these orders, illegal billboards were being erected at various places in the city.

He said that the commissioner of Karachi seemed unable to take any action in this matter.

He asked the Sindh government to take action against all the advertising companies violating the court orders.
