Fourth spell of monsoon rains hit Karachi, disrupts power supply

(Karachi) Strong winds and rain lashed the city and its adjoining areas crippling routine life, media reported on Thursday. The Met office predicted that the recent spell will continue till Saturday (August 8).

As per details, the fourth spell of monsoon rains hit various city areas, including Defence, Clifton, Nazimamabad, Orangi Town, Liaquatabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, North Karachi, Gulshan-e-Maymar etc.

Power supply to many areas disrupted after the rains lashed the city. K-Electrtic failed to maintain uninterrupted power supply to the city as many feeders tripped with first drops of rain.

Traffic snarled up on major arteries of the city as water began to stand on the streets, turning short commutes into an ordeal of hours. Ambulances too could be seen trapped in the bumper-to-bumper queues.

Meanwhile, the met office has predicted that this year 10 percent more rains are expected in Sindh as compared to previous year. It also warned of floodings in the province.

A monsoon low pressure from Bay of Bengal is likely to approach Sindh on Thursday (evening/night). Under the influence of this weather system strong monsoon currents are expected to penetrate in Sindh, South Punjab and Eastern Balochistan from Thursday (evening/night) to Saturday.

According to the advisory, widespread rain/wind-thundershowers, with isolated heavy to very heavy falls are expected in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Tharparker, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Tando Allah Yar, Matiyari, Tando Muhammad Khan, Jamshoro, Dadu and Shaheed Benazirabad from Thursday (evening/night) to Saturday.

Scattered rain-thundershowers (with isolated heavy falls) are also expected in Bahawalpur, Rahim yar Khan, Khairpur, Sukkur, Larkana, Kambarshahdadkot, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Ghotki, Kalat, Jaffarabad, Jhalmagsi, Khuzdar, Lasbella and Awaran on Friday and Saturday.
