ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People's Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Saturday met with Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) president Sardar Akhtar Mengal and discussed the current political situation in the country, PPP spokesperson said in a statement on Saturday.

Akhtar Mengal officially had announced to withdraw his party from its alliance with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led federal government on June 17 at the floor of the National Assembly over govt's failure to implement agreement with the party even after passage of two years.

Bilawal was accompanied by senior leaders Nayyar Bukhari, Mustafa Nawaz Khokar, and Farhatullah Babar, while Agha Hasan and Mir Hamal Kalmati accompanied Akhtar Mengal during the meeting held at the Zardari House in Islamabad.

The meeting has assumed significance in the wake of planned All Parties Conference (APC) to be held after Eidul Azha.

According to the sources, Bilawal had approached the BNP leader to set a time for the meeting.

The sources said the PPP had decided to expedite its efforts for stronger opposition against government and to expose its commitments made by it with the people before coming into power.

The PPP leadership has taken steps to strengthen its response to the government by fortifying and bringing orderliness to its Punjab chapter.

The sources told that PPP chairman Bilawal had handed over the gauntlet to Qamar Zaman Kaira to strengthen and organise party matters in Punjab. Kaira and party general secretary Chaudhry Manzoor would work together.

The two leaders will also formulate programme schedules and unite old and new jiyalas under the party's flag.
