LETTER: This is apropos a Business Recorder editorial "PTV's woes" carried by the newspaper yesterday. The newspaper has concluded its argument by stating that "If PTV is to survive, let alone thrive, in the intensely crowded and competitive media landscape today, it must say goodbye to the tightly controlled, sycophantic culture of yesteryear and embrace a new vision of professional excellence compatible with today's global media industry. In its present shape and form the PTV does not serve the interest of the state as it has little or no credibility".

I would like to draw our authorities' attention to the case of Doordarshan, once India's sole channel. It is no longer a loss-making entity as it has started posting profits. Last year, the government injected a massive amount of money into this 'white elephent' for strengthening broadcast infrastructure and network development. It has achieved marked improvement through a strategy based on good quality content and effective marketing. PTV, too, can achieve similar or even better results.
