KARACHI: Model Customs Collectorate (MCC), Port Qasim on Friday claimed to have detected tax evasion amounting to over Rs 220 million in the clearance of different consignments in the months of May and June, 2020.
According to details, the MCC has detected over Rs. 220 million tax evasion during scrutiny of records of consignments clearance in the months of May and June, 2020.
During scrutiny of records, the MCC has identified some 11 Goods Declarations (GDs) in which the importers and their clearing agents were mis-declared the consignments.
In addition, the concerned customs officers were assessed these consignments on wrong valuation rulings and cleared the same, facilitating the importers and their clearing agents to evade duty and taxes and provided financial shock of around Rs. 227 million to the kitty, sources said.
Moreover, sources said that the MCC, Port Qasim after detecting tax evasion issued hearing notices to the importers that resulted the recovery of Rs. 200 million so far. Further legal proceedings are in progress.
