KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar on Saturday informed that the federal government is providing Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) some 50 fire tenders equipped with latest technology which will improve the performance of the department.

The mayor told that fire stations are also being upgraded and the amount has been allocated for this purpose in the budget for FY 2020-21.

"Karachiites express confidence in fire brigade and it must stand on the people's confidence," said the mayor in a statement. He said KMC fire brigade employees have been provided fire risk allowance.

Akhtar asked the fire brigade workers and officers to keep performing their duty with courage as their profession cannot afford any lethargy.

He also expressed concerns over surge in high rise buildings in the city and said Sindh Building Control Authority should follow rules and regulations while issuing NOCs for multi storey buildings. Akhtar was of the view that the fire brigade has capability to extinguish fire up to 8th floor.

"The people should be more careful in this season as fire incidents are increased in summer..." he added.

The mayor said the KMC issued fire risk allowance despite financial crisis because the fire fighters save lives of others keeping their own at stake. He directed that fire stations and tenders should be kept on standby and as well as employees presence be ensured round the clock to cope with any untoward situation.
