Only 'cleared' pilots flying

Updated 04 Jul, 2020

LETTER: The federal cabinet has been told that only pilots with "clear" credentials are flying planes and that all pilots who had "dubious" licences have been fired. But the question is why the government is attributing its action to Supreme Court of Pakistan's directions. According to information minister Shibli Faraz, for example, the issue of fake degrees and licences came up during the meeting and the government had only acted upon the directions given by the apex court on PIA plane crash incident in Karachi.

Why has it failed to probe the credentials of pilots on its own? Was it waiting for a catastrophe to take place and the apex court to ask it to spring into action? Unfortunately, however, the government's action against pilots lacks transparency.
