Some 237,322 were unemployed in the Balkan country of 7.1 million during last month, when 17,270 found work.
The agency, which calculates the jobless rate based on the number of officially registered unemployed, said that some 2,300 people were involved in government-sponsored programmes in January.
The finance ministry expects the unemployment rate to fall to 6.2 percent this year and drop further to 5.6 percent by 020 as domestic demand picks up.
