Ishaq Dar challenges ECP's rejection of Senate election nomination papers
Former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar challenged on Thursday the Election Commission of Pakistan's (ECP) decision of rejecting his nomination papers for the Senate elections.
According to local media reports, a petition was filed at Lahore High Court appellate tribunal, stating that Dar had fulfilled all the legal requirements for contesting the elections. The application further read that his papers were rejected, which is against the norms of justice.
ECP rejects Ishaq Dar’s Senate nomination papers
On February 12, ECP had rejected the former minister’s nomination papers as he has a pending corruption case against him in the accountability court. Earlier, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had objected to his nomination papers, saying that he was not eligible as he had been involved in corruption.
Dar had applied from Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz for the elections in two different categories, which includes a general seat and a technocrat seat. The Senate elections will take place on March 3.
