SC adjourns dual national employees case till Wednesday

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court Tuesday adjourned a suo moto case regarding dual nationality of judges and the government employees till Wednesday after summoning the Secretary Establishment over submission of an interim report in this regard.

A three-member SC bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar directed the Attorney General for Pakistan and advocate generals of the all the provinces to submit reports in this regard within a week.

During the course of proceedings, the chief justice asked as to why the Secretary Establishment had submitted an interim report instead of a comprehensive one about the dual national government employees.

The Registrar Supreme Court submitted the report regarding judges having dual nationality.

The chief justice remarked that according to the report no judge of Supreme Court, Federal Shariat Court, Balochistan High Court and Peshawar High Court had dual nationality while Justice Jawad Hassan of Lahore High Court LHC and two judges from lower judiciary namely Ashfaq Rana and Ferkhanda Ashraf were dual nationals and Justice Karim Khan Agha of Sindh High Court had British citizenship.

Three judges from lower judiciary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and Islamabad namely Farogh Atta Ullah Khan, Rashid Asad and Samia Noreen Iqbal were also dual nationals, he added.
