ATC gives police until February 19 to arrest Rao Anwar
After many deadlines, the police have been given yet another deadline, this time by an anti-terrorism court, to arrest the former Malir Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Rao Anwar by February 19 under any circumstances.
On Wednesday, the investigation officer (IO) SSP Abid Ali Qaimkhani appeared before the court and produced two suspects, Sub-Inspector Mohammad Yasin and Assistant Sub-Inspector Supurd Hussain.
The IO informed the court that the two officials were no longer needed for investigations, local media reported. The court was also informed that four suspects had refused to confess and were sent to jail by a judicial magistrate on February 6.
SC gives Sindh police 10 more days to arrest Rao Anwar
On Febraury 1, the Supreme Court had given Sindh police 10 days time to apprehend Anwar, who has been absconding since he tried to flee the country in January.
The former SSP is wanted in the ‘extra judicial murder’ of 27-year-old Naqeebullah Mehsud, a native of Waziristan. He was killed, along with three other suspected terrorists, on January 13 in an alleged encounter with a police team headed by Anwar. However, Naqeebullah’s family has claimed that the deceased was innocent and was killed in a ‘fake’ encounter.
