Japan's banking stocks drop after BOJ conducts special bond purchase operation

Stocks down after Bank of Japan conducts a special bond purchase operation.

Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group sheds up to 2.3 pct, Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group falls as much as 1.7 pct to 5,006 yen and Mizuho Financial Group declines up to 1.4 pct to 206.8 yen.

Banking stocks gained in the previous session after a few banks posted brisk corporate earnings.
