ECP restores registration of 12 political parties
ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Thursday restored the registration of 12 political parties, including Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P).
A five-member commission headed by Chief Election Commission Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza heard the MQM’s registration suspension case.
MQM-P's counsel Barrister Farogh Naseem requested the ECP that their party’s registration was suspended for not submitting the Rs 0.2 million fees, adding that the party had made this mistake as it was not aware of the new laws but now it had completed all the formalities.
The ECP in its decision restored MQM-Pakistan’s registration and ruled that the party would now have the right to contest the upcoming Senate and general polls on its election symbol.
