The ocean is full of deadly and bizarre creatures and one of these creatures has recently been found on the coasts of Taiwan and it’s a shark.

This rare fish is a viper dogfish, known as ‘Trigonognathus kabeyai’, and is a small, glowing and black shark that resides in the Pacific Ocean off the coasts of Hawaii, Japan and Taiwan. During a survey of fish species, Taiwanese Fisheries Research Institute came across this unusual catch. They were first discovered in 1986 and now five of these fishes were captured.

What’s more terrifying about these sharks is their snake-like head and their needle-like teeth and triangular and extendable jaws through which it snatches its victim. Its prey is mostly bony fishes and crustaceans that include animals such as crabs, lobsters, shrimps and more. The prey items recovered from these fishes’ bellies were swallowed as a whole, which indicates that they mostly hunt by swimming quickly with their mouths open to swallow the victims in one piece, according to National Geographic.

Unlike usual sharks, these sharks are not much big; the largest one recorded was only 18 inches long. Though they are entirely inky black in color but due to their light-producing photophores cell, they appear luminescent. They can also use their light emitting cells to attract their prey.

Science Alert reported, these weird looking creatures might seem dangerous but is actually harmless to humans. Having a small population, they live in deep waters and are very difficult to find, they were found about 1,000 ft below surface. Due to their rarity, not much is known about this kind of specie.
