Journalists, organizations or institutions that promote press freedom worldwide can be nominated for a US$25,000 award.

The UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize will recognize a significant contribution to press freedom, especially in high-risk areas, said a press release on Thursday.

Member states, international/regional organizations or professional/non governmental organizations working in the field of journalism and freedom of expression can nominate up to three candidates.

The recipient will be recognized during the World Press Freedom Day ceremony to be held May 3.

Nominations must be submitted in English or French and include a brief biography or history of the nominee.

The deadline is February 15, 2018.
