Some residents of Qasiambad taluka have approached SHC, pleading it to order shifting of the wine shops operating in violation of the law in the locality.

The petitioners Nadir Ali, Hassan Ansari and Kamran Khan pleaded that the shops in Main Qasimabad and Citizen Colony road operate in the residential and commercial areas.

"There are many apartments and bungalows as well as markets, schools, tuition centers and clinics in the area," they claimed.

They argued in the petition that in violation of the law and Islamic prohibitions the wine shops had been operating openly.

"The sale of wine has elicited an increase in the crimes. Drunken persons are often seen walking in the streets where many families live in the flats and bungalows," they informed the court.

The petitioners alleged that the wine shops were being operated in connivance with the officials of the concerned government departments.

The court issued notices to the respondents to submit reply on January 17.
