THE RUPEE: dollar higher

The rupee was down against dollar on the currency market on Friday due to higher demand for the greenback, dealers said. The rupee lost 11 paisa versus the US currency for buying at 86.46 and shed 10 paisa for selling at 86.50, they said.
The euro dipped 0.6 percent versus Swiss franc to 1.08000. Euro-Swiss, which hit a record low of 1.0075 on Tuesday on trading platform EBS, is still down 1.4 percent on the week, even after having surged by as much as six percent on Thursday.
Dollar was available at Rs 45.41 for Indian currency, the greenback was trading versus the ringgit at 2.9880 and the US currency was available at 6.395 in terms of the Chinese yuan.

According to the currency dealers, the dollar witnessed fresh demand that helped its appreciation in the open market. At the end of trading, the dollar was closed at Rs 86.20 and Rs 86.40, as its buying and selling rates against the overnight closing of Rs 86.05 and Rs 86.25, respectively, the dealers said.
Similarly, the rupee could not sustain and was declined against the pound sterling. The pound's buying and selling rates were increased from Thursday closing of Rs 139.80 and Rs 140.80 to Rs 140.20 and Rs 141.00, respectively, the dealers added.
The dollar opened at Rs 86.00 (buying) and Rs 86.30 (selling) against the last rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 86.00 (buying) and Rs 86.30 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 138.30 (buying) and Rs 138.50 (selling) the overnight value. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 138.30 (buying) and Rs 138.50 (selling).
