Pakistan bowling legend, Shoaib Akhtar has expressed his resentment over the escalating political tensions between the neighbouring Pakistan and India.

Akhtar, hailed as the fastest bowler in the cricketing history, called for renewal of cricketing ties between the arch rivals.

“Its unfortunate that the best cricket teams of the world #Pakistan & #India are not playing matches against each other and r just doing politics instead,” stated Shoaib Akhtar, on social media.

Earlier, Sushma Swaraj, the Indian Minister for External Affairs ruled out the possibility of Pakistan-India bilateral cricket series.

The Indian minister was of the view that the prospects of a cricket series between India and Pakistan are dim, even at a neutral venue, owing to the political tensions on both sides of the border.

Speaking at a meeting of Parliament’s consultative committee on external affairs, Swaraj said that the atmosphere is not ‘conducive’ for cricket diplomacy, the Times News Network reported.

The two arch-rivals last participated in a bilateral series in December 2012 when Pakistan visited India for a limited overs series.
