The Government of Pakistan will release 146 Indian fishermen on January 8, according to a statement released by the Foreign Office on Monday.
Pakistan handed a list of 457 Indian prisoners currently in the country, to the High Commission of India in Islamabad. Out of these, 58 are civilians while 399 are fishermen.
This step comes under Consular Access Agreement, signed on May 21 2008, between the two countries. According to the agreement, Pakistan and India will exchange list of prisoners twice a year on January 1 and July 1.
India will hand over the list of Pakistani prisoners to Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi.
