With the revival of Sindh Local Government Ordinance (SLGO) 2001 many departments including Health, Education, Agriculture and others have been restored to their old district setups, sources told Business Recorder. According to SLGO 2001, 12 provincial departments would work under the district governments and City District Government Karachi (CDGK).
Education, Health, Agriculture, Finance, Social welfare, Works and Services, Information Technology, Transport, Local Government and other departments have to come again in the tree of SLGO 2001, sources told. Local Government department was the first one which had issued notification of restoration of District Governments, TMAs and Union Councils while the Health Department has also issued a notification in this regard, sources told.
There are 18 District Headquarters Hospitals (DHQs), 44 Taulka Headquarters Hospitals (THQs), 783 Basic Health Units (BHUs), 125 Rural Health Centers (RHCs), 470 Dispensaries, 12 Urban Health Centers (UHCs) and 41 Shafakhanas running all over the province, sources informed.
Above-said institutions would come under the District Governments again with issuance of the said notification, sources told. It is pertinent to point out here that more than 500 BHUs are running under People's Primary Health Initiatives (PPHI), which will further remain under the control of PPHI, sources claimed.
Whereas, 12 UHCs are only running in various areas of Karachi which would also come under the control of City District Government Karachi (CDGK), sources told. Moreover, District Health Officers (DHOs) would work as Executive District Officers (EDOs) in all districts of the province, sources said.
On the other side, Sindh Agriculture Department has also issued notification to restore the old set-up of SLGO 2001, According to notification, Directors (Agriculture) of Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, and Mirpurkhas will work as Executive District Officers (EDOs).
While, rest of district officers who had been posted as Additional Directors (Agriculture) will work as District Officers (DOs) and Deputy District Officers (DDOs), sources informed. The posts of four Additional Directors (Agriculture) who had been created in revived-districts of Karachi had also been abolished, sources told. Now, All the EDOs of Agriculture and Health would be bound to report concerned DCOs, sources said.
Sources concluded that rests of departments are also working on the restoration of old set-up as per SLGO 2001, so that all notifications in this regard would be issued within next couple of days and whole set-up of SLGO 2001, would be functional again within the period of next 10 days.
