A division bench of the Lahore High Court here on Tuesday issued notice to Chenab Rangers' wing commander Colonel Nadeem Ahmad Karim in a contempt of court petition and directed him to file his reply by July 27. The petitioner Muhammad Asif of Narowal contended that the respondent officer defied an earlier court order and did not allow him to harvest wheat crop on his land measuring 1,844 Kanals and seven Marlas.
The petitioner submitted that the LHC division bench on May 02 last had directed the border area committee to allow the petitioner to harvest wheat crop on the land, but the respondent officer summoned the petitioner in his office and pressurised him to surrender the possession of the land.
The counsel said petitioner approached the border area committee with an application for grant of status quo regarding the possession of the land and for the preservation of wheat and other crops sown by the petitioner. But, he said, the committee had not taken any action in this regard.
Counsel pointed out that the LHC had directed the authorities not to disturb the possession of the petitioner over the said land in another petition filed in 2008 The petitioner, therefore, prayed the court to proceed against the respondents under contempt of court act for defying court orders.
