Protesting lawyers damage new Judicial Complex in Multan
Several lawyers vandalized on Wednesday a newly-constructed Judicial Complex in Multan in protest for shifting of the judicial complex. The lawyers were protesting against the decision to shift the judicial complex as the new complex had insufficient facilities.
The lawyers had initially staged a protest outside the old judicial complex at Katcheri Chowk. After which they had gathered and reached the new the new complex, located on Matital Road in buses, local media reported.
The lawyers stormed inside the building and started damaging the building, breaking the windows and doors of the 55-room building. The lawyers chanted out slogans and broke the chairs and other properties.
A heavy contingent of police was deployed outside the complex to control the situation. According to media reports, when Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah was asked about the protest, he said that the lawyers were just exercising their 'democratic right' and that staging sit-in has become a trend in Pakistan.
The new judicial complex had been shifted to Matital Road due to traffic at the old complex. Multan's Sessions and District courts were shifted after the inauguration of the new complex on November 15.
