WAH CANTT: Senior Pakistan Musluim League-Nawaz leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan Saturday expressed his concern over growing protests and said the politics of 'dharna' (sit-ins) should now end to save the country turning in to a ‘banana republic'.

Addressing a press conference at Kohistan Secretariat in Taxila, Nisar said all political parties, the media, state institutions should join hands to end the politics of sit-ins.

Chaudhary Nisar, who is a former interior minister, said a precedent seemed to have been set, wherein powerful groups, some with considerable militant power, staged a sit-in and laid siege to Islamabad. Such things did not happen in any other democratic country, he added.

“Democracy is in danger because of the politics of sit-ins,” he viewed.

He said the chapter of sit-ins must be closed in order to put the country on the track of progress and development.
