The Indian rupee edged higher on Thursday, tracking gains in most other regional currencies, with broad losses in the dollar versus majors overseas also helping sentiment. At 10:15 am (0445 GMT), the partially convertible rupee was at 45.42/43 per dollar, 0.2 percent above its 45.515/525 close on Tuesday. The forex market was closed on Wednesday for a local holiday.
One-month offshore non-deliverable forward contracts were quoted at 45.62, weaker than the onshore spot rate. In the currency futures market, the most traded near-month dollar-rupee contracts on the National Stock Exchange, MCX-SX and United Stock Exchange were at 45.4625, 45.4650 and 45.4675 respectively, with the total traded volume on the three exchanges at about $750 million.
