Indian rupee up

Published Updated

The Indian rupee edged higher on Thursday, tracking gains in most other regional currencies, with broad losses in the dollar versus majors overseas also helping sentiment. At 10:15 am (0445 GMT), the partially convertible rupee was at 45.42/43 per dollar, 0.2 percent above its 45.515/525 close on Tuesday. The forex market was closed on Wednesday for a local holiday.
One-month offshore non-deliverable forward contracts were quoted at 45.62, weaker than the onshore spot rate. In the currency futures market, the most traded near-month dollar-rupee contracts on the National Stock Exchange, MCX-SX and United Stock Exchange were at 45.4625, 45.4650 and 45.4675 respectively, with the total traded volume on the three exchanges at about $750 million.
