Mobile, internet services likely to be suspended on 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal
The Sindh government approached Federal Interior Ministry and requested to suspend mobile phone services on Friday (tomorrow), on the occasion of Eid Milad-un-Nabi.
In the letter dated November 29, the government has requested for the suspension of mobile phones from 8 am till 8 pm. The Sindh government also requested for internet services to be temporarily suspended.
The request has been asked to suspend the services in Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur, local media reported. However, the Federal Ministry has yet to announce their decision.
Security arrangements in Karachi
Sindh police finalized on Wednesday the security arrangements for Eid Milad-un-Nabi on Friday and deployed 23,338 policemen on duty in Karachi. A meeting, chaired by Sindh Inspector General of Police AD Khawaja, discussed the security arrangements and have him a report.
Out of the 23,338 policemen, 4,860 police will be covering the central procession on 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal in Karachi.
For the protection of the people joining the central procession, senior police officers attending the meeting informed the IG that prison vans, armed carriers, mounted cops and police mobiles will be a part of the security teams.
For any unexpected accidents, ambulances and fire engines will also be stationed at different points, the IG was informed.
Code of Conduct
A meeting chaired by Rangers DG Major General Muhammad Saeed was held on Tuesday at the Rangers Headquarters in Karachi. During the meeting, a code of conduct was finalized to ensure law and order for 12 Rabi-ul- Awwal.
It was decided that strict action would be taken against anyone involved in aerial firing or displaying and carrying arms. No one would be allowed to display flags belonging to controversial organizations, shout inappropriate slogans or distribute hatred pamphlets, local media reported.
The participants of the meeting also appealed to the scholars and clerics of all the school of thought to cooperate with the law enforcement agencies. They have also appealed to the citizen to inform the Rangers helpline if they find any suspicious thing or illegal activity.
