ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the government to submit its strategy regarding stoppage of cutting of trees and stone crushing in the Margalla hills areas and adjourned hearing of the case for one week.

A division bench of the apex court headed by Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed heard the suo moto notice case.

The court observed that the government had failed to remove illegal constructions despite its orders.

During the course of proceedings, the court asked Minister of State for Capital Administration and Development Division Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry as to why illegal constructions had not been removed despite its orders.

The court also remarked that it had been hearing the Margalla hills stone crushing case for long, but without any outcome.

Advocate Munir Paracha, counsel for the Capital Development Authority, informed the court that the police were not available for operation against illegal constructions due to the sit-in in the capital.

Justice Ijaz Ul Ahsan remarked that illegal constructions were increasing day by day in capital.

Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry pleaded the court to grant one week for submission of an action plan for removal of illegal constructions.

The court accepted the minister’s plea and adjourned hearing of the case for one week.
