Ministry of Religious Affairs on Thursday issued a fresh notification of Maulana Muhammad Khan Sherani's appointment as Chairman, Council of Islamic Ideology (CII), specifically mentioning three-year term. The earlier notification was withdrawn. Maulana Sherani has been appointed as Chairman CII for a period of three-year with effect from November 16, 2010.
Maulana Sherani had refused to assume the charge, citing the reason of not mentioning his term as CII chief in the earlier notification. He had termed the prior notification of his appointment as mala fide on part of the government. Sources in Ministry of Religious Affairs said that the earlier notification was withdrawn after JUI-F's successful meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari during a dinner hosted by President for parliamentarians.
