Accountability Court rejected on Saturday the request of Pakistan Peoples Party leader Sharjeel Inam Memon and others to discard the references filed against them by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and not to indict them in the corruption cases.

On Saturday morning, police produced Memon and others accused before the court. Once the hearing proceeded, the court rejected the application and adjourned the hearing till November 24 to indict the accused, local media reported.

Sharjeel Memon, eleven others sent to jail on judicial remand

Memon’s counsel filed an application to the court to constitute a medical board to examine his health. The counsel said that Memon was given unfair treatment inside the prison and the jail authorities had specified that the court had restricted them to provide medical facilities.

A few days ago, Memon’s health had worsened at the jail and he had needed immediate medical assistance. The judge then sought Memon’s medical report from the jail authorities.

NAB had filed a reference against Memon for his misconduct in payments regarding advertising campaigns. It was revealed that Rs 5.7 billion was paid to seven advertising companies, which was a violation of Sindh Public Procurement Rules 2010. Memon was accused of issuing contract to advertising agencies at excessive rates without confirming the market rates. This had resulted in the loss of more than Rs 5 billion.
